About 90% of women suffer from Primary dysmenorrhea which is the cramping pain due to menstrual cramps (either before or during the menstruation)

So what does it have to do with Ginger?

One study found that ¼ teaspoon of ginger powder given three times a day during the first three days of menstruation can reduce the pain (on a scale of 1-10) from like a 7 down to 5.

Another subsequent study found that 1/8 teaspoon of ginger powder can reduce the pain from 8 to 6 in the first month. But then the second month down to three!!

The reduction of the menstrual pain was more remarkable during the second month and the ginger was only taken for four days, not the whole month.

Consuming ginger not only reduces the pain severity but it also reduces the duration of it. So, a quarter of teaspoon of ginger powder three times a day, dropped the severity of pain from about 7 down to 5, and decreased the pain duration from a total of 19 to 15 hours.

Which is more effective relieving menstrual pain, (250 mg) Ginger powder or (400 mg) Ibuprofen (a drug to relieve minor aches and pain)?

The ginger worked just as well as the drug of choice.

It is suggested to consume three quarters of a tea spoon of ginger powder a day for three days as a safe and effective way to reduce the pain and duration of menstrual cramps.
